Former as well as Current Pakistan players congratulated the Indian team for their sensational triumph in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Rohit Sharma's team India came out on top against Aiden Markram's South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados. It was the Men in Blue's first appearance at a T20 WC final since the 2014 edition when they had finished as runners-up of the Bangladesh edition, losing to Sri Lanka.
In 2016, India lost to eventual champions West Indies in the Semi-final before suffering a group-stage exit from the next edition in 2021. In 2022, the story had remained the same as in 2016 as the Indian team, for the first time under Rohit Sharma's captaincy in a T20 WC, lost to eventual winners England in the semis.
That loss was indeed a reality check for the Indian team and it called for a drastic change in the T20I game, not in terms of team set-up but the mindset. When Rohit Sharma and co. arrived to play in this T20 World Cup, their intent was clear. They didn't want to play in the same style and manner and rather wanted to be aggressive.
And just like every captain does, Rohit Sharma led from the front and made the difference. He also made a few bold decisions by pushing Virat Kohli to open for India and Rishabh Pant to come in at number 3 instead of appearing in the middle-order. All those moves worked wonders.
But the main trump card for Rohit Sharma was none other than his long-time Mumbai Indians teammate Jasprit Bumrah - the X factor of India. Yesterday in the finale, it was Kohli and Bumrah who became the point of difference,. While Kohli shone with the bat, Bumrah changed the game entirely with his bowling.
If those two players, hadn't performed, then India would not have been crowned World T20 Champions after 17 years. Following the Men in Blue's amazing triumph, fans, as well as former cricketers, rallied in with congratulatory posts with Pakistani players also not missing out.
