The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already started finalizing travel plans for India’s Test tour of England, despite the official squad for both India A and the senior team yet to be announced. It is being said that the first batch will depart for England on June 6.
As reported by the Times of India, Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir is set to fly to England on June 6 along with the first group of players who are not part of the IPL 2025 playoffs. Most members of the support staff are currently outside India and could join the team directly in England.
Gautam Gambhir to fly with the first Test squad batch on June 6
Players involved in the later stages of the IPL 2025 will join the squad in England after taking a short break once their tournament ends. Gambhir will lead the early preparations for the upcoming much-awaited five-match Test series in England, starting on June 20.
The BCCI will soon inform all players and staff about travel and preparation plans once the Test squad is announced. A senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by TOI, “The players who get free from the IPL during the league stage are likely to leave with coach Gambhir on June 6. The rest will leave after a short break post the IPL 2025 commitments.”
Earlier, it was reported that the India A team will begin its tour of England on May 25, also traveling in batches. Players not part of the IPL 2025 or those not making the playoffs will fly first, with others set to join the squad in England later.
India A squad announcement delayed
The announcement of the India A squad has been delayed due to changes in the IPL 2025 schedule after suspension for a week due to the India-Pakistan conflict, forcing the national selection committee to adjust its plans accordingly.
Meanwhile, Indian cricket is entering a completely new phase. With both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stepping away from Test cricket, Gautam Gambhir is expected to take full charge of the team.

Gambhir, known for his strong opinions and straightforward leadership style, is reportedly set to become the central decision-maker for the Test team.
Gautam Gambhir will be the boss of everything in Indian cricket?
A recent report by Dainik Jagran suggested that the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir will now take the lead on everything from team selection and planning to setting long-term goals. With Rohit and Kohli no longer part of the Test setup, there’s nobody who could influence or counter Gambhir’s strategies.
The 2011 World Cup final hero has always spoken against the concept of individual star power, and this could be his chance to shape the team based purely on performance and discipline. Gautam Gambhir has also reportedly asked the BCCI for complete freedom to run the team his way, as he looks to build a strong and focused Test unit for the future.
The Dainik Jagran report said, “In order to stop a repeat of the home-series defeat against New Zealand and the debacle in Australia, Gambhir has requested the board for full autonomy.”
