Gautam Gambhir gets a huge relief in an ongoing case related to Artificial Intelligence. It was observed that some of the popular posts on social media platforms, which have millions of views, used the former cricketer, now the head coach of Team India, voice, image, and name commercially, without his consent.

The videos, which used Gautam Gambhir's image, voice, and name, spread false claims and news as well, using AI and deepfakes. Amid the growing concerns, Gambhir went to the Delhi High Court personality rights. On Wednesday, March 25, it is reported that the High Court has granted protection of Gautam Gambhir's personality rights.

Millions of views on social media posts using Gautam Gambhir's identity

Some of the fake videos claimed that he stepped down from the Team India head coach job, which was proved absolutely wrong, as the coach has been carrying on the crucial job to guide the team to win the T20 World Cup 2026. If things go according to the original plans, then the Gambhir will remain on the hot seat during the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup as well, which will be held in 2027.

"My identity — my name, my face, my voice — has been weaponised by anonymous accounts to spread misinformation and generate revenue at my expense," Gautam Gambhir mentioned in his petition.

"This is not a matter of personal hurt; it is a matter of law, dignity, and the protection every public figure deserves in the age of artificial intelligence,” he added further.

The number of manipulated videos has increased since late 2025

According to the media reports, such manipulation of social media posts, using Gambhir's identity, increased sharply since late 2025 across Instagram, X, YouTube, and Facebook.

In an order, the Delhi High Court directed that all the misleading posts across social media and internet platforms be removed. The Delhi High Court has also ordered Meta, Google, and Amazon to take down objectionable URLs.

Gambhir's suit has been filed against 16 defendants including the identified

According to a report by Bar and Bench, "Gambhir's suit has been filed against 16 defendants including identified social media accounts (JanKey Frames, Bhupendra Paintola, Legends Revolution, gustakhedits, cricket_memer45, GemsOfCrickets, Crickaith, Sunny Upadhyay, @imRavY_)."

"E-commerce platforms (Amazon, Flipkart), platform intermediaries (Meta Platforms Inc., X Corp., Google LLC / YouTube), and the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MEITY) and Department of Telecommunications (DoT) as proforma parties to facilitate implementation of any court order."

Gautam Gambhir's role as the head of Team India was brutally criticised by some cricket fans online during the lead-up to the T20 World Cup 2026.

Under the former opener's coaching, the Men in Blue sustained multiple humiliating defeats in the longer formats of the game, including a whitewash in Tests at home. Defeats sparked anger across social media platforms, which resulted in countless posts. Some of them took the opportunity to boost views on their social media posts using Gambhir's identity.
