Gautam Gambhir spoke to the reporters on the eve of the final Test between Australia and India in Sydney. When asked about the reports claiming that he lashed out severely at the players after the Melbourne Test, he refused to comment and refused to accept it.

“Those are just reports, not the truth, I don’t need to comment on any reports. Honesty is important, we want to go on and achieve some great things,” Gambhir said in the press conference.

Gautam Gambhir slams Team India in dressing room

According to the reports, Gautam Gambhir was at his aggressive best and frustrated at the players for prioritising their natural game over the game situation. He didn't name any individuals but raised questions on the team's ability to adapt according to the situation and the conditions.

The report also claimed that Gambhir might have given the players freedom in the last six months from the start of his tenure as the head coach but will be strict from now onwards for the betterment of the team.

In a strict warning, he asked the players to follow the team's strategies, otherwise, they would face severe consequences. Former cricketers like Irfan Pathan and Shreevats Goswami expressed their displeasure on the dressing room leaks and claimed that such talks should stay inside the dressing room.

How did the chaos start?

The whole chaos in the Indian dressing room started after India's loss to Australia in Melbourne, which left them trailing 1-2 in the five-match Test series. After the loss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir were slammed from various corners.

Rohit Sharma himself is in poor form with the bat, aggregating just 31 runs in three Tests so far at a dismal average of 6.20 so far. Rohit Sharma's captaincy is also in severe danger with the vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah performing exceptionally well.

The defeat in Melbourne has left India's chances of qualifying for the WTC Final hanging by a thread. If India loses this series, they will be out of the race for the WTC Final. It will also be Gambhir's second successive series defeat in just six months of his coaching tenure so far. Earlier, India had also lost a home series to New Zealand (0-3) in a shocking manner.
