Gautam Gambhir Plays The Victim Card Once Again When Asked About MS Dhoni's Knock In ICC World Cup 2011 Final
Gautam Gambhir has opened up on the reason why his innings of 97 was overshadowed by MS Dhoni’s 91* in the 2011 World Cup finals. Gambhir played a surreal knock in the finals of the 2011 World Cup against Sri Lanka scoring 97 off 122 deliveries after India was off to a shaky start losing Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar early on in the innings.
Gautam Gambhir came into bat at No.3 after Sehwag was dismissed off the very first ball of the innings after Lasith Malinga trapped him in front of the stumps getting an LBW. Gambhir came into bat in a difficult situation on a tricky Wankhede wicket but started to build his innings slowly and steadily playing on the merit of the ball. He partnered with Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni to do the job for India and even meddled in the mud diving to save his wicket at one point.
However, most people still consider MS Dhoni’s 91* as superior innings and do not give enough credit to Gautam Gambhir for his heroics in the finals. Now finally Gambhir has revealed the reason why his innings were overshadowed by Dhoni’s 91. In a podcast when he was asked about the same, Gambhir said that it is the people who call the innings underrated are the ones who don’t give enough attention to his innings and said that the broadcaster acts as a PR Agency.

He said, “When these people give the tag of ‘underrated innings’ or ‘underrated player’, these are the same people who under-show, undervalue, and underappreciate. Nothing is underrated.”
He further added, “A Broadcaster can never be a PR machinery, a broadcaster needs to be fair to everyone sitting in that dressing room. If today I have a machinery and I have to choose two people. If out of three hours I show one player for two hours fifty minutes and the other for 10 minutes then the person being showed for two hours fifty minutes will become a brand.”
No one can deny the fact that Gautam Gambhir indeed was a hero in the finals of the World Cup in 2011 but, indeed, people don’t talk about his innings as much as they talk about MS Dhoni’s 91*. Gambhir was truly on point when he said that a broadcaster should be fair with everyone in the dressing room and should always show every player for a considerable amount of time.
