Gautam Gambhir quashes all rumors of becoming India’s Head Coach

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir made a massive statement after winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He stated that they still are two title wins away from Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings to become the most successful franchise. 

The mentality of the Gautam Gambhir is something that has been liked by one and all in Indian cricket. The Kolkata Knight Riders mentor isn't satisfied even though they won the trophy, which speaks a lot about his hunger to succeed and win more. 

Gautam Gambhir joined Kolkata Knight Riders as a mentor ahead of the IPL 2024 and as soon as he was in KKR colours, his goal was clear. In the first team meeting, he stated that he wanted the team to play in the final and wanted them to win. 

With the way, Gautam Gambhir changed the dynamics of the game, it was sensational to see. Kolkata Knight Riders were struggling to get going in the last few seasons, looked like a completely different team this year and were the strongest. 

Gautam Gambhir made quite a few changes in the way the team played the cricket and it paid rich dividends as Kolkata Knight Riders won the title. They managed 9 wins in the 14 games and lost just three games while two got washed out. Right from the start of the tournament, they managed to remain in the top two spots. 

Their dominance continued even in the playoffs. Kolkata Knight Riders thumped Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 1 by 8 wickets and advanced to the final of the tournament. They were even better in the final against the same opponents as they dominated right from the ball 1.

However, even after winning the IPL, Gautam Gambhir wasn’t satisfied. He stated that he wants to make Kolkata Knight Riders the most successful franchise in the league and for that, they need to win three more titles, which is their main goal and they will be working hard for that. 

"Our next mission is to make KKR the most successful team in the IPL. There will be no better feeling than that. But, the journey towards that has only begun," the KKR mentor said.

"We are still two trophies away from MI and CSK. I am content today, but we are still not the most successful IPL franchise. To do that, we need to win the tournament three more times, and that will require a lot of effort.

Gautam Gambhir's statement indicates that he wants to be with the Kolkata Knight Riders for a while and is not interested in taking up the role of India head coach. If he takes up the role of Team India, he cannot take part in IPL, which is the policy of BCCI. 

Gautam Gambhir has been in the headlines for the role of the head coach of Team India.  There have been several reports that have stated that he will be joining the team after Rahul Dravid’s tenure ends after the T20 World Cup 2024. Although there isn’t any official confirmation, reports have claimed that he is the front-runner to take the role.
