Team India celebrated head coach Gautam Gambhir’s 44th birthday in style with a 2-0 Test series win over the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 14. Following the victory, Gambhir transferred the much-talked-about ‘Prince’ tag from Shubman Gill to a legendary figure in Indian cricket.

Gambhir represented India in 58 Tests, 147 ODIs, and 37 T20Is. The left-handed opener amassed over 9,000 international runs, including nine Test and eleven ODI centuries. He played match-winning innings in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup finals, helping the team secure both ICC titles.

Yuvraj Singh extended warm wishes on social media, noting that Gambhir remains “even more serious” now as a coach, while lauding his impactful contribution to Indian cricket.

"Wishing a very happy birthday to the one who was Gambhir when he played for India and now even more Gambhir while coaching for India! Lots of love brother ❤️ Keep up the great work and have a lovely year ahead!," Yuvraj wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Thanks A Ton Prince - Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir’s response to Yuvraj Singh’s birthday wish quickly caught fans’ attention online. Gambhir referred to Yuvraj as “Prince,” a popular tag once associated with Shubman Gill, sparking varied reactions on social media.

"Thanks a ton Prince! ❤️," Gambhir replied.

Shubman Gill secured his first Test series win as captain as India completed a 2-0 sweep over the West Indies, clinching victory by seven wickets in the second match in Delhi.

Gill led from the front with an unbeaten century in the first innings, his highest Test score on Indian soil. The young batter will next head to Australia for the ODI series, which will be his first assignment as India’s limited-overs captain.

Gautam Gambhir’s Next Big Challenge Awaits in Australia

Gautam Gambhir faces his next challenge as India’s head coach with little turnaround time after the West Indies series. The team will tour Australia for three ODIs and five T20Is starting October 19. Notably, the series will also mark Shubman Gill’s first assignment as India’s ODI captain.

India have excelled in white-ball cricket under Gambhir’s guidance, having already won the Asia Cup and Champions Trophy. However, the upcoming tour is expected to be a tougher test given Australia’s home advantage and challenging conditions.

Since Gambhir took charge, India have maintained an impressive record, winning nine of their 12 ODIs and 20 of their 22 T20Is, showing the team’s strong form and consistency across formats.
