Those two were the same matches in which the No.1 bowler in the world - Jasprit Bumrah - participated. And, surprisingly enough, the match that the speedster skipped, India won in a dominant manner by 336 runs at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Notably, Bumrah arrived in England for the five-match Test series with a pre-determined plan to feature only in three matches. The pacer made this decision in coordination with the BCCI medical staff to protect himself from sustaining any injuries, especially on his back.

Although Bumrah has received massive backlash for being selective about playing Test matches, the team management has given him a green signal, and he was allowed to skip the Edgbaston Test despite India's loss in the series opener.

Will be a leaning towards playing him - Ryan ten Doeschate

There were some doubts over the participation of Bumrah in the fourth Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which is all set to start on July 23 at Old Trafford in Manchester.

However, the India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has all but confirmed that the premier pacer will be playing in the Manchester Test. He stated that they are "leaning" towards playing Bumrah with the series on the line. Doeschate said:

"No, we'll make that call [on Bumrah] in Manchester still. We know we have got him for one of the last two Tests. It's pretty obvious that the series on the line now in Manchester so there will be a leaning towards playing him."

But again, we have got to look at all the factors - Ryan ten Doeschate

Doeschate, however, further said that they will make the final decision on Bumrah's participation soon after taking into consideration all the factors. He stated:

"But again, we have got to look at all the factors: how many days of cricket are we going to get up there, what do we feel is our best chance of winning that game, and then how that fits in together with The Oval. And looking at the last two games holistically as part of the series."

Currently, Jasprit Bumrah is the second-highest wicket-taker in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 behind Mohammed Siraj, with 12 wickets in four innings at an average of 21.

Meanwhile, India have suffered a massive blow in the pace department ahead of the Manchester Test match as the left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has injured his bowling hand and is currently under the observation of the medical team.
