Gautam Gambhir, famously known for his outspoken personality, takes a brutal jab at Kirti Azad, who criticized the Indian team management for taking the 2026 T20 World Cup trophy to the Hanuman Temple in Ahmedabad soon after winning the final match by 96 runs, defeating New Zealand.
Team India's head coach hit back at Azad by saying, there is no point picking up certain statements, because these statements will only shape the massive achievement thin.
It is not even worth answering this question: Gautam Gambhir on Kirti Azad
While talking with ANI, Gautam Gambhir said that amid the big achievements of the nation, the question is not even worth answering. Statements made by Kirti Azad, a 1983 World Cup winner and Trinamool Congress MP, can damage the hard work of the players who put all their efforts to earn the third T20 World Cup title.
“It is not even worth answering this question. Answering that question, it is a big moment for the entire country. If you ask me, then it's a huge moment for our whole country. I think it's important that we celebrate the World Cup winner. That's why I said certain statements; there is no point picking up certain statements, because these statements will only dilute your achievement”, Gautam Gambhir said during a conversation with ANI.
“If you want to dilute the achievements of those 15 players and their efforts, then tomorrow anyone can give any statement, and we start taking it seriously, which isn't fair to the boys”, he added.
Gautam Gambhir praised the players for making all the hard efforts to claim the trophy
Putting a focus on the moment, when Team India was under immense pressure after being defeated by South Africa in the Super 8 stage of the tournament, Gautam Gambhir stated that the players had to go through a squeezing situation, which deserves to be appreciated widely, instead of making demoralizing remarks.
“Imagine that the boys have gone through so much -- the amount of pressure they've been under after losing one match in South Africa, the kind of pressures the boys were under. Today, if you are giving such a statement, you're literally degrading your own players and degrading your own team, which should not be done”, Gambhir opined.
Kirti Azad raised questions on Suryakumar Yadav and Jay Shah
Mentioning captain Suryakumar Yadav and ICC Chairman Jay Shah, Kirti Azad wrote on his ‘X’ post, “Why the hell is the Indian cricket trophy being dragged. Why NOT a Mosque? Why NOT a Church? Why NOT a Gurudwara? This Team Represents INDIA — not Surya Kumar Yadav's or Jay Shah's Family! Siraj never paraded it at a Mosque. Sanju never took it to a Church. The latter had a major part to play and was the man of the tournament.
SHAME ON TEAM INDIA! 😡
