Gautam Gambhir vs Rohit Sharma! Suryakumar Yadav reveals who taught him the 'art of leadership'

India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav talked about taking over the reins of the team from Rohit Sharma in the shortest format of the game. He said that he learned a lot of things from the Indian ODI and Test captain, and he will try to follow the same template.

The captain Suryakumar Yadav era will soon begin in Indian cricket as the right-hander will be leading the team in the three-match T20I series against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The series between the teams begins on the 27th of July at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele.

After Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the T20I format, the captaincy spot got vacant in the Indian team. It was originally Hardik Pandya, who was all set to take over the captaincy of the team but his fitness history along with workload management didn't work in his favor.

It made BCCI, team management, and Gautam Gambhir name Suryakumar Yadav as the captain of the team. This is because the batter has been the best player for India in the T20I and even in the world. He has been consistently scoring runs for the team and is making sure he stays at the top of the ICC rankings.

Suryakumar Yadav has played the majority of games of his career under Rohit Sharma. Be it at Mumbai Indians or India National Cricket Team, the batter shared a great bond with India Test and ODI captain as they both, over the years, have been fantastic, playing together and helping India win the games.

With Rohit Sharma retiring from the T20Is as the T20 World Cup 2024 winning captain, the pressure automatically comes on Suryakumar Yadav as he will have to fill the big shoes. A lot of expectations would be on him, and he would be keen to stand tall on them and guide the team to victory.

I have learned the art of leadership from him - Suryakumar Yadav on Rohit Sharma

Ahead of the first T20I against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team, Suryakumar Yadav attended the press conference. He talked about how he has learned leadership from Rohit Sharma and stated he will follow the same template as the senior batter did. He said:

"Rohit Sharma was a leader. I have learned the art of leadership from him. The template will be the same."

Suryakumar Yadav further stated that he has changed a lot in the last 10 years. He stated that he has learned a lot of things about captaincy from Rohit Sharma. He added:

"From 2014-15 to now, it is almost 10 years. I'm a completely changed man now. I have learnt a lot of things about the captaincy, especially from Rohit Sharma."

Suryakumar Yadav would be eager to lead from the front. He has been the backbone of the team in the shortest format of the game. Along with him, Gautam Gambhir too would want to start his stint on high as the duo looks to take the Indian team forward.
