Former India National Cricket Team batsman Manoj Tiwary has made a shocking claim, stating that the new Bronco Test introduced in the Indian cricket is aimed at throwing Rohit Sharma out of the ODI setup.
Although Manoj Tiwary acknowledged that the Bronco Test has been brought to set fitness parameters at the highest level, he opined that there is more to it.
I think it is for the players like Rohit Sharma - Manoj Tiwary
Reportedly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced the Bronco Test as a new fitness benchmark in Indian cricket on the arrival of Adrian le Roux as the strength and conditioning coach and under the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir
The Bronco Test will complement the existing Yo-Yo test and 2-kilometre time trial to assess the fitness of the players, especially focusing on endurance and cardiovascular health.
This test was originally designed for rugby players and involves shuttle runs over 20 metres, 40 metres, and 60 metres. One set includes running all these three distances, then the player repeats the set five times continuously, totaling 1,200 metres with no rest. The players who complete the test in the shortest time will be regarded as the fittest.
Meanwhile, Manoj Tiwary, in an interaction with Crictracker, said that the extremely difficult Bronco Test has been brought to oust some players like Rohit Sharma, whom the Gautam Gambhir-led team management doesn't want in the squad.
"I believe this Bronco Test, which was introduced a few days back, I think it is for the players like Rohit Sharma and someone who I believe they don't want them to be part of the team in future."
Why not when your new head coach got the assignment from the very first series? - Manoj Tiwary
Tiwary added that the new fitness test will be helpful for team management in keeping some players out of the team, and raised some serious questions about it. He said:
"And that's why it has been introduced. It has been brought in, obviously, to set the fitness parameter at the highest level, but also I believe it has been introduced to keep a few players out, as like what happened when our Indian great legends like Gambhir, Sehwag, and Yuvraj, and others were doing really well."
"The Bronco Test will be one of the toughest fitness test parameters which has been introduced by the Indian cricket. But the only question is, why now? Why not when your new head coach got the assignment from the very first series? Whose idea is it? Who introduced this? Who enforced this Bronco Test a few days back?"
Because no one is bigger than the game of cricket - Manoj Tiwary on Jasprit Bumrah
In the same interaction, Manoj Tiwary launched an attack on the BCCI for picking Jasprit Bumrah for the five-match series against England despite knowing that he would not play all the matches.
Manoj Tiwary said that Bumrah shouldn't be allowed to pick and choose matches, as no one is bigger than the game. He said:
"If a player is not fit for a five-Test series, when you know beforehand, then obviously, you will not pick that individual. Why will you not pick that individual? Because no one is bigger than the game of cricket."
