The review meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following the India National Cricket Team's poor performances has reportedly seen the board take harsh steps. The governing body, along with selectors, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and captain Rohit Sharma, were present at the meeting.

This comes after India National Cricket Team displayed extremely poor performances after the T20 World Cup 2024. They faced a loss to Sri Lanka in the ODI series after 27 years. Following that, they suffered a 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand at home and then lost to Australia by 3-1, which saw them missing a place in the final of the ICC World Test Championship.

Gautam Gambhir and his coaching staff were asked about the poor performances of the team, management blamed IPL

During the review meeting, as per the reports in Dainik Jagran, it was learned that Gambhir and his coaching staff were asked about the poor performances of the team in ODIs and Tests. This development was revealed by a BCCI official working in the Mumbai office.

However, to everyone's surprise, the team management blamed the Indian Premier League (IPL). As per the reports, it is learned that a member of the Gautam Gambhir-led team management said that big IPL contracts are one of the main reasons why the team has been struggling. One of the members stated that players, due to big IPL deals, don't give their all for the national team in the longest format.

Member of Gautam Gambhir's staff mentions that many players didn't play with full intensity in Australia

It is learned that a member of Gambhir's staff mentioned that many players didn't play with full intensity and commitment in the Tests. This was reportedly cited as one of the reasons for the defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

India National Cricket Team, under head coach Gautam Gambhir, has been having a torrid time in the two formats. While the team is performing extremely well in the T20Is, the performances have been extremely poor in the ODIs as well as the longest format of the game.

In the last two Test series, the Indian batting has been one of the poor reasons behind the loss of the team. Both at home as well as in Australia, batters failed to cash on. The bowlers have been decent, but they haven't got any support from the batters, which saw the team struggling.

Future of Gautam Gambhir as a head coach to be decided after ICC Champions Trophy 2025

There have been several reports that the future of Gautam Gambhir as a head coach and Rohit Sharma as captain will be discussed only after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The team's performance in the tournament will decide the fate of the duo and if they fail, there might be a new setup.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is all set to be played from 19th February. India National Cricket Team will be playing all their games in UAE and will be opening their campaign against Bangladesh National Cricket Team on 20th February.
