Gautam Gambhir facing heavy criticism
Head coach Gautam Gambhir has received massive backlash for the poor performance of the India National Cricket Team in Test cricket.
Under his guidance, the Men In Blue have performed spectacularly in T20I and ODI cricket, even lifting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in the UAE.
However, India's Test team has seen a big downfall since Gautam Gambhir came at the helm. Gambhir's Test tenure started off on a dominant note as India crushed Bangladesh 2-0 in a home series.
But since then, things have not gone in India's favor. They suffered a historic 0-3 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand at home. It was the first Test series loss on home soil after 12 years for India and the first-ever 0-3 whitewash in the history of Test cricket at home.
Then, India travelled to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and despite starting off the series with a win, they ended up facing a 1-3 loss. Currently, India are involved in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England and are trailing by 1-2.
BCCI Won’t Sack India Head Coach Even After England Test Series Disaster
Gautam Gambhir has made some shocking team selection decisions in Test cricket and has tried to implement the white-ball cricket strategy in the red-ball format.
He has relied heavily on the all-rounders instead of specialists and focused on the batting depth rather than getting 20 wickets in the match.
All these poor decisions have led to many believing Gautam Gambhir is not the right fit for the head coach job in Test cricket. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seems to think otherwise.
According to Dainik Jagran's Abhishek Tripathi, the BCCI is in no mood to sack Gambhir even if India lose the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 in a humiliating manner. The governing body will evaluate his performance in the long run, and he will continue in the role in the next red-ball series as well.

I am surprised that this 18-member squad doesn't have a middle-order batter - Aakash Chopra
In a video shared on his official YouTube channel after the end of the first day's play at Old Trafford in Manchester, former India opener Aakash Chopra questioned India's squad selection.
Chopra highlighted that India do not have backup middle-order batters in the Test squad and are forced to play all-rounders. He said:
"Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar, and Ravindra Jadeja scored a few runs. However, if three all-rounders play from No. 6 to No. 8, you expect a lot of runs with the bat, but you don't have that assurance. I am surprised that this 18-member squad, and Anshul Kamboj has been added to it, doesn't have a middle-order batter.
"You haven't picked anyone. You have picked all top-order batters. When Karun Nair was played at No. 6, we said that we had batted him out of position, or else he too is a No. 3 batter. Who will play down the order if everyone plays at No. 3?
"Suddenly, Nitish Kumar Reddy got injured, and you didn't have a batter left with you. You said you would play Shardul in his place and make Jaddu bat at No. 6 since he was batting well, but Jaddu was expected to fail at some stage."
