Team India skipper Rohit Sharma is yet to make his final call about his availability for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka next month. Rohit Sharma might make himself available for the three ODI matches, considering the limited ODIs scheduled before the Champions Trophy early next year.

Rohit Sharma last played in the 2024 T20 World Cup final match at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29. The India team defeated the South Africa team by seven runs in a thrilling encounter. The Men in Blue ended a 13-year World Cup trophy drought. Rohit became the third Indian captain to win a World Cup.

Rohit Sharma Might Play In Upcoming ODI Series Against Sri Lanka

Gautam Gambhir recently expressed a desire for players to be available for all formats. According to a Cribcuzz report, Rohit Sharma might participate in the three ODIs in August. The Indian skipper is expected to confirm his availability to the BCCI before the upcoming online meeting on Wednesday, July 17.

"There is some indication that Rohit Sharma may make himself available for the three ODIs in August. Considering there are not many one-dayers before the Champions Trophy next February-March, Rohit might decide to play in these games. Currently on holiday in the US, Rohit was not available for confirmation. He is expected to inform the BCCI of his availability soon, unmistakably before the meeting, expected to take place online on Wednesday,” a report by Cricbuzz said.

The 37-year-old batter will lead the ODI team in the three-match series. If Rohit opts out of the series, KL Rahul could be the captain of the Indian team for the ODI matches. Hardik Pandya might also skip the ODI matches in Sri Lanka. Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli are also not expected to be included in the squad.

The series will start with T20Is, with the first match taking place at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on July 27. The next two T20Is will be held at the same venue on July 28 and July 30. Following the T20I series, the three ODI matches will be played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo from August 2 to 7.

Rohit Sharma To Lead Team India In Champions Trophy 2025

After winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is, sparking speculation about his retirement from other formats of the game. Sharma dismissed these rumors at a recent event in the USA, stating that he plans to continue playing for a few more years. He added that he is currently focused on the present.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah announced that Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team in both the World Test Championship and the Champions Trophy next year. The veteran opening batter aims to conclude his illustrious international career with more ICC trophies as the Indian captain.
