Gerald Coetzee Bought By Mumbai Indians For 5 Crores In IPL Auction 2024

South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee, on Tuesday (December 19), earned his maiden IPL contract as Mumbai Indians signed him in the ongoing IPL auction 2024.
The right-arm pacer had registered himself at a base price of Rs 2 crores. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings showed interest in the bowler and registered their bids as soon as his name was announced. Lucknow Super Giants also joined the race at Rs. 3.60 crores before Mumbai Indians eventually signed him up for Rs 5 crores.
Quality fast bowlers have always been in demand in IPL auctions and Gerald Coetzee enhanced his chances of earning an IPL deal by impressing in the World Cup. With the likes of Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala not being able to play in the World Cup due to injury, the youngster earned a call-up for the World Cup and grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
He finished the World Cup as South Africa’s highest wicket-taker with 20 wickets from just 8 games. He now also holds the record for most wickets by a South African in a single edition of the World Cup. He also has the experience of playing in SA20 and Major League Cricket. Gerald Coetzee was called by many as one of the breakout stars of the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
