Glenn Maxwell recently shared a surprising incident involving Virat Kohli that ruined the relationship between them. However, Maxwell and Kohli both now share a strong camaraderie, thanks to their IPL stint for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), but their initial interaction had a bitterness.
The Australian all-rounder revealed that the Indian batting superstar had actually blocked him on social media following his sarcastic dig at him back in 2017. The incident was from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy when Australia toured India for the Test series back in 2017.

During the third Test in Ranchi, Virat Kohli suffered a shoulder injury while fielding, which sidelined him temporarily. Glenn Maxwell, in a light-hearted but misunderstood moment, mimicked Kohli’s injured posture, holding his own shoulder during Australia’s fielding stint.

However, Maxwell’s humor didn’t quite sit well with Kohli, and he blocked the explosive all-rounder on Instagram soon after. Years later, when Maxwell was signed by the RCB, he asked Kohli about whether he blocked him on Instagram, and the former Indian captain admitted doing so.
I didn't even think about that incident before that: Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell said on the LiSTNR Sport podcast: “When I knew that I was going to RCB, Virat was the first guy to message me and welcome me to the team. When I turned up for the pre-IPL training camp, we obviously got chatting and spent a fair bit of time training together as you do. So, I go to his social. media and follow him. I didn't even think about that incident before that. Never really crossed my mind. I was like, 'I can’t find him.”
Maxwell further revealed, “I'm sure he's on social media somewhere, so I didn't think anything of it. Not really that; maybe he wasn't savvy with Instagram. I didn't really understand why he wasn't coming up, and then someone mentioned that he might have blocked you. That is the only way you’re not able to find him. I was like, surely not.”
But after he joined RCB, Kohli quickly unblocked Maxwell and put any hard feelings aside. However, the endless hours of training together at the RCB fostered a great relationship between Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell, and they are now very good friends both on and off the field.

Maxwell further noted, “Then I went and asked him, 'Have you blocked me on Instagram?' And he was like, 'Yeah, probably. It was when you mocked me during that Test match. I think I got the sh*** and decided to block you. I was like, 'Yeah, that's fair enough.' So yeah, he ended up unblocking me, and we became great friends after that.”
Maxwell and Kohli's journey from fierce competitors to close friends is marked by their shared experiences, both on the field and off. The Australian star said that their relationship evolved dramatically after joining RCB in the IPL.
