Glenn Maxwell shred to Bits and Pieces by Sanjay Manjrekar after Rajasthan Royals' clash

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar took a dig at Punjab Kings (PBKS) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for his inconsistent performances in the IPL 2025 season. Manjrekar quipped that the batter delivers a good innings only once in a long while after the match between Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Maxwell, known for his talent in limited-overs cricket, has struggled to leave a mark in the IPL. However, he has secured contracts over the years due to his reputation and potential. Maxwell has yet to deliver a strong performance with the bat in the ongoing season, which is a major concern for Punjab Kings.

Speaking on JioHotstar, Sanjay Manjrekar compared Maxwell to Halley’s Comet. Manjrekar said that Maxwell delivers a good performance as rarely as Halley’s Comet appears in the sky, roughly once every 75 years.

“Halley's Comet orbits the sun and is visible from Earth once every 75 years. Just like that, Glenn Maxwell plays one good match in 75 games. It was last seen in 1986, and it will now be spotted in 2061. It's the same case with Maxwell in batting. Glenn Maxwell is Halley’s Comet of Cricket," Manjrekar said on JioHotstar.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was also part of the commentary panel, didn’t fully agree with Manjrekar’s harsh comparison of Maxwell to Halley’s Comet. Sidhu said that Maxwell plays a good performance once every 25 games.

"Maxwell plays one good match in 25 games," Sidhu said.

Maxwell, who has been part of the IPL since 2012, has only crossed the 400-run mark in three seasons. He scored just 52 runs from 10 matches while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2024. Following that underwhelming performance, RCB decided to release him ahead of the 2025 season.

Punjab Kings signed him during the mega auction. However, Maxwell has yet to make an impact this season as well, scoring only 37 runs across three innings so far.

Wadhera, who scored 62, was dismissed on the very next ball by Wanindu Hasaranga. Punjab managed to score only 155/9 in 20 overs. The Shreyas Iyer-led team faced their first defeat of the IPL 2025 season after losing to Rajasthan Royals by a 50-run margin at the Mullanpur Stadium on April 5.

PBKS will take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their next match at the same ground on Tuesday, April 8. They are in fourth place in the 10-team points table with four points and a net run rate (NRR) of +0.074.
