Disappointing to Lose Someone of Glenn Phillips’ Calibre - New Zealand Head Coach
New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said that Glenn Phillips' injury is a significant loss for the team. Walter added that Phillips will work hard on his recovery and looks forward to seeing him back in action soon.
“It’s obviously disappointing to lose someone of Glenn’s calibre. Much like Finn, we really feel for Glenn and that he misses out on this series,” said Walter.
“We know he was eager to get out on the field for the BLACKCAPS and unfortunately, he won’t be able to do that for this series. We know he’ll work hard to get himself back onto the park, and I look forward to when that happens.”
Finn Allen Ruled Out of Zimbabwe Tour After Foot Injury in MLC
New Zealand are also without Finn Allen, who was initially named in the squad but was later ruled out after injuring his foot while playing for the San Francisco Unicorns in the MLC.
Glenn Phillips, who was part of New Zealand's Test squad for the upcoming series against Zimbabwe, will return home after being ruled out due to a groin injury. A replacement for him in the Test squad will be announced later.
Phillips will be joined on the flight back by Mitchell Hay and James Neesham, who were also travelling reserves for the tour.
The all-rounder had recently played 10 matches for Washington Freedom in Major League Cricket, scoring 186 runs at an average of 62 and a strike rate of 139.84.
Earlier this year, Phillips missed most of the IPL season due to a similar groin injury sustained while substituting for the Gujarat Titans.
