Gloucestershire is set to rebrand itself using the city name 'Bristol' in the upcoming season of the T20 Blast. Gloucestershire has gained significant success so far in the tournament, including winning the trophy once, but the attention they got from the local cricket fans was not up to the mark.

To attract a larger audience, especially the local cricket fans, the County cricket club has decided to rebrand, using the name of the city where they play. With the local essence in their brand, the cricket fans in Bristol could connect with the team in an easy way.

Gloucestershire plays T20 Blast from Bristol

Gloucestershire plays in the T20 Blast tournament from Bristol. The officials of the County Cricket Club believe the lack of attention at their home matches is because local cricket fans have been failing to connect with the team. A slight change in the name of their T20 Blast team could change the scenario from the next season.

Speaking to Cricinfo, Gloucestershire's chief executive Neil Priscott and head of audience development Jenny Hall said that Gloucestershire Cricket will remain the overarching identity of the team. But to create a dedicated identity for their T20 set-up, so that the club could attract new viewers, they are set to start a fresh chapter.

"Over recent months, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club has worked closely with our players, our members working group, the ECB, and a number of key stakeholders to help shape an exciting new chapter in our evolution," the club told Cricinfo in a statement.

"Building on more than 150 years of proud heritage, Gloucestershire Cricket will always remain our overarching identity and the foundation of everything we do. As part of our wider strategic vision to grow domestic cricket, attract new audiences across the region, and drive commercial reinvestment back into the sport, we will be creating a new dedicated T20 identity for our men's and women's teams."

Why is Gloucestershire considering rebranding ahead of the next season?

The media report further mentioned that the official decision on the change of name is yet to be taken. Soon, the club is expected to arrange another meeting to discuss its future moves. There, the final call on rebranding the T20 team could be taken.

Bristol is the city that is known for their love of sports. Teams across different sports gained notable attention in the recent time with their fans located in Bristol. Whether it was the English Premier League club Bristol City or the lower division football club Bristol Rovers, they have their dedicated fan base.

A poor year for Gloucestershire in the County Championship as well

The men's and women's Bristol Bears rugby union teams also have the same. The T20 Blast team from the city remains exceptional; they are yet to get the full support from their local cricket fans.

The year for the Gloucestershire County Cricket Club has not been good, as they finished in the bottommost position in the points table of the Division Two County Championship tournament. They got to win only three matches and conceded ten defeats in fourteen games.
