Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali issued a massive statement during an online discussion session. He said that those who suggested the team score 60 runs in 10 overs would be shot down.

The controversial comments by Basit Ali followed Pakistan's disappointing defeat against Bangladesh on March 11 in Dhaka, in the first ODI of the three-match series. Bangladesh claimed the 50-over match inside the 16th over of the second innings, beating the away team by 8 wickets.

PCB selected a bunch of uncapped cricketers to face Bangladesh in the away series

Amid the underwhelming run in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026, Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took multiple significant decisions before traveling to Bangladesh. They shaped their ODI squad with multiple uncapped players, dropping some of their star cricketers, such as Babar Azam, to offer the team a new look and new hope.

With multiple uncapped and emerging cricketers in the combination, a part of cricket fans expected to see an encouraging performance from the team against Bangladesh. What really actually happened at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium was something beyond expectations— Pakistan bundled for only 114 runs in a 50-over innings. They lost their last scalp on the first ball of the 31st over. Bangladesh did not face any notable hurdle before chasing down the paltry target.

Only a couple of batters got something to talk about

Sahibzada Farhan, who was in brilliant form in the T20 World Cup 2026, was the second-highest run getter for the touring team, scoring 27 runs in 38 balls. Faheem Ashraf's 37 off 47 was the highest individual effort for the team.

The Shaheen Afridi-led team actually had a decent start. For the opening stand, they got 47 runs. Farhan's departure proved costly for the team. As soon as the opener headed back, the batting order collapsed.

Former cricketer Basit Ali issued a controversial statement about the Pakistan Cricket Board

Former international batter Basit Ali accused the entire team strategy of the absolutely disgraceful performance against Bangladesh. He claimed that those who asked the batters to score 60 runs in 10 overs should be eliminated. Another former cricketer, Kamran Akmal, was also involved in the online discussion panel.

"Before talking about the new players and experienced players, talk about those who asked the team to score 60 runs in 10 overs. The people who asked the batters to score sixty runs in ten overs, should be shot down. They will never come forward; they have never played cricket in their lives. First, they needed to take a call before the toss. The opening partnership was the best part of our batting", Basit Ali said.

If the Men in Green brigade wants to save the series, then they will have to win the second match of the bilateral contest. The Bangladesh vs Pakistan 2nd ODI match is scheduled to be held on March 13, and the 3rd of the 3-match ODI series will be on March 15.
