Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev has weighed in on the highly anticipated contest between India and Pakistan ahead of their match in the Asia Cup 2025 and has urged the fans to let the players do their job while the government does its.

The India vs Pakistan match is a much-anticipated contest between the two nations because they do not compete against each other in tournaments other than ACC or ICC events. India-Pakistan bilateral relations have been strained for over a decade on the international platform.

After the increased tensions between the two nations following the Pahalgam attacks, there was immense uncertainty over the participation of the two sides in the Asia Cup. However, they have agreed to feature in the same group and play in the Asia Cup.

"Government will do its job, and the players should do theirs." Kapil Dev urges not to make the Indo-Pak game a big issue

Ever since the Asia Cup schedule was announced, a debate has ensued on whether India and Pakistan should engage in a cricketing contest despite the current political scenario between their governments.

The BCCI has been keeping its word of abiding by the central government orders, under their policy, which permits their participation in multinational tournaments but restricts them from bilateral series.

Kapil Dev, the Indian legend, has come forward and made a public statement on what should be done by the Indian spectators on the issue. He has asked not to make this a big issue.

"Just go and win. Those whose job is to play should just focus on playing - there's no need to say anything else. Don't make this a big issue. The government will do its job, and the players should do theirs," Kapil Dev said while speaking to reporters on Thursday.

Kapil Dev names the Indian team as favourites in the Asia Cup

India are the official hosts of the continental championship for the 17th edition. This commenced on the 9th of September, and India have already kick-started their campaign against the UAE.

Pakistan, on the other hand, are yet to start their campaign in the Asia Cup but looks confident after its tri-series win against the UAE and Afghanistan just last week. After Pakistan disagreed to play on Indian soil, the tournament was decided to be held in the UAE, following their demand for a neutral venue.

Kapil Dev has cited, "The team is very good and has secured an impressive victory. We hope they bring the trophy home."

India make a startling start to the Asia Cup campaign

India made their start to the campaign in one of the most stunning fashions on the 9th of September. They played the first match against the current host, the United Arab Emirates, and registered a huge 9-wicket win in the first game with 93 balls to spare in the Indian innings.

The bowlers did an exceptional job as they bowled out the UAE for a score of just 57 runs, and the Indian batters chased it within 4.3 overs to start with a record run rate of 10.480.
