Gujarat Titans have roped in Gurnoor Brar as a replacement for Sushant Mishra for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024. An official release from the IPL confirmed the development on Saturday (May 11).
However, the release did not reveal the reason behind Sushant Mishra getting ruled out of the ongoing competition. The left-arm pacer, who plies his trade for Jharkhand in domestic cricket, did not play a single game in IPL 2024. The ongoing season was his first IPL season.
On the other hand, Gurnoor Brar played for Punjab Kings in the last edition of the IPL but went unsold in the IPL 2024 auction. He played one game for the Punjab-based outfit in IPL 2023. Brar has played 5 first-class matches and a List-A game so far.
"Gujarat Titans have signed fast bowler Gurnoor Singh Brar as a replacement for Sushant Mishra for the remainder of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024," stated the IPL release.
"Gurnoor has represented Punjab in domestic cricket in five First-Class and one List A match. In 2023, he played a solitary match for the Punjab Kings in the Tata IPL. He signs in for his reserve price of INR 50 lakhs," it added.
Gujarat Titans likely to miss out on playoffs:
Talking about the Gujarat Titans' performance in the ongoing IPL 2024, they have failed to do well this season. The Gujarat-based outfit is looking set to miss out on the playoffs for the first time. They won the IPL in their debut season in 2022 before finishing runners-up in 2023.
For the ongoing season, they had to appoint Shubman Gill as the new captain after Hardik Pandya's departure and the former has not really managed to make a big impact so far. While the Titans are still mathematically alive in the competition, their chances are almost nil.
At present, they are languishing at the eighth spot in the points table with five wins from 12 games. Even if they go on to win their remaining two league games, they need a host of results to go their way to make it to the playoffs for the third time in a row.
