Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has affirmed that his side can still make it to the play-offs if they win their remaining matches in IPL 2024.

Shubman Gill made this claim last night after starring with the bat in the 1st innings to help Gujarat prevail over the Chennai Super Kings by 35 runs. GT jumped from number 10 to 8th with that win but most importantly they prevented CSK from taking a step closer to the playoffs to defend the IPL title they last season.

What did Shubman Gill say about Gujarat's play-off prospects?

While speaking in the post-match presentation after beating Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad, Shubman Gill was very optimistic about GT's chances. The 24-year-old was indeed very happy to see his side get back to winning ways after losing their last three matches against Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (twice).

Those three losses had somehow proved to be too expensive for Gujarat Titans as they were relegated down to the bottom of the table. In their previous two seasons, GT had finished on top of the table both times but that was under Hardik Pandya's captaincy. With Shubman Gill in charge, the team looked a little unsettled but their performance last night was a vintage GT performance.

They first posted 232 runs as the target for CSK on the back of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan's sensational double-centurion opening partnership. Both of them scored centuries in front of home supporters at the Narendra Modi stadium with Shubman Gill smashing 104 off 55 and Sai Sudharsan scoring 103 off 51.

With the target already pushing pressure on the visitors, CSK further succumbed to it right after their chase had begun. Ajinkya Rahane, Rachin Ravindra, and Ruturaj Gaikwad flopped with Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali staging a little fight with their respective half-centuries.

Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja had flopped as well while MS Dhoni smeared 26 off just 11 but that was still not enough as CSK were restricted to 196.

It was a double delight for Shubman Gill as not only did he help his side claim victory but he was also adjudged as man of the match. It was in the post-match interview that Gill claimed that everyone in the Gujarat Titans unit feels that they can still reach the playoffs despite the chances being at 0.1/1 percent.

The Fazilka-born cricketer also affirmed that he is expecting a miracle to take place as he has seen something similar in the past two seasons.

"The chances of us qualifying was 0.1 or 1 percent. I think all of us, all 25 of us, we all believe that we can still make it into the playoffs. Because I have seen miracles happen with this team in the past couple of years and we all do believe in that." - Gill said during the post-match presentation.

Gujarat to play KKR and SRH in their final league games

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans are all set to lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders and the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last two league games. Despite the GT captain's optimism, the 2022 champions will find it difficult to win both of their games against 2 of the best sides in IPL 2024.
