Faf du Plessis opted to bowl after winning the toss at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, April 28. The visitors made one change to their lineup, with Glenn Maxwell replacing Lockie Ferguson in the playing XI. Gujarat fielded the same lineup from the previous game.

RCB spinner Swapnil Singh secured an early breakthrough for his team by dismissing Wriddhiman Saha, who managed five runs off four balls in the first over. The home team managed just 42 runs in the powerplay as both Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan found it difficult to score.
