The Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans (GT) are now under serious pressure in the ongoing TATA Indian Premier League 2026 (TATA IPL 2026). Following their embarrassing 99-run loss to the Mumbai Indians (MI) in their home game on April 20, questions are being raised on some key players who have not been able to deliver when the team needed them the most.
This crushing defeat has dropped them to sixth place in the IPL 2026 points table with six points from six games so far this season, making their situation worse. And now former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has suggested GT shake up the batting line-up to make a strong comeback.
Manoj Tiwary demands Rahul Tewatia's ouster from the Gujarat Titans
The former Indian batter-turned politician has pointed fingers at Rahul Tewatia after his 8-run knock against the Mumbai Indians despite coming as the Impact Player for GT in Ahmedabad. Rahul was retained by the franchise for ₹4 crore, but he turned out to be their biggest flop this season.
Rahul has so far scored only 49 runs in 6 innings at an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of 116.67. He has not yet faced more than 11 balls this season, putting pressure on the rest of the GT line-up. Because of his continuous poor performance, Tiwary wants Rahul to be dropped by the Titans.
Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan will have to repay GT's faith: Manoj Tiwary
The cricket pundit also suggested Gill and Ashish Nehra consider showing the door to Shahrukh Khan, who is also a big disappointment for the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2026. He has so far managed only 35 runs in 6 matches at an average of 11.67 and a strike rate of 140.00.
Manoj Tiwary said on Cricbuzz: “You must drop either Rahul Tewatia or Shahrukh Khan because a lot of matches have gone by. Today was a golden chance. Aap jo match jeetaye the Sharjah mein 5 chakke marke woh bhul gaye hai log (People have forgotten the match you won by hitting five sixes in Sharjah). Only a few people remember that. Now, people just remember how you have played in your last innings. These two were retained at a high value, so they will have to repay that faith.”

Mohit Sharma questions GT's Rahul Tewatia move; suggests two bold moves
Meanwhile, former Indian pacer Mohit Sharma felt that Anuj Rawat could have been a better option than Tewatia in that situation. He also pointed out that Glenn Phillips has failed to make an impact this season, scoring 67 runs in five innings.
Given that, Jason Holder must be a good option for the Gujarat Titans. The former CSK star wants Holder to replace Phillips in the Gujarat Titans’ playing XI in their upcoming match against RCB on April 24 in Bengaluru.
Mohit Sharma said during the same discussion: “I feel that Anuj should have come in. There were 12 overs left at that stage. They will have to think about how they will utilize these things.”
He added, “They could have considered Jason Holder in place of Glenn Phillips. Glenn Phillips is not looking in rhythm, and if you see his records, he has not played an impactful innings in any league till now. He plays well for New Zealand and hits big sixes, but he wasted an opportunity here.”
