IPL 2025 witnessed another competitive season with a number of keenly contested games, which went right till the last ball. In this article, we will talk about the performance of the former champions Gujarat Titans.
Gujarat Titans Squad Rating for IPL 2025: 8/10
Gujarat Titans have made a name for themself as one of the most consistent teams of the tournament in a short span of time, having made their IPL debut in 2022.
As far as the team's performance in the recently concluded IPL season is concerned, GT finished the season at number four, which was their third playoff appearance in four years.
The team was well led by India's newly appointed test captain, Shubhman Gill, and he received good support from Ashish Nehra and other members of the support staff.
Shubman formed a solid partnership with Sai Sudharshan at the top of the order as the young left-hander scored over 750 runs in this year's tournament.
The pair gave Gujarat Titans a steady start by playing traditional shots and not going hell for leather right from the first ball, as has been the case in modern-day T20 cricket.
Both the openers scored more than 600 runs and laid the platform for Jos Buttler, who batted at number three for his new team and did exceptionally well before joining England for national duties.
The top three batters scored the bulk of the runs for Gujarat Titans, which helped the team in a big way by guiding them to the playoffs.
Having said that, there has been a lot of chatter that GT's over-dependency on their top three batters came to haunt them in the second half of the tournament, as they found it difficult to win matches.
But was it really the reason for GT's string of losses, or was there any other aspect that went unnoticed?
Well, the dependency on the top three batters was one, but not the only reason for the Titans' below-par performance in the latter stages of the season.
Highest Run Scorers
Player | Matches | Runs | Strike Rate | 6s |
Sai Sudharshan | 15 | 759 | 156.17 | 21 |
Shubhman Gill | 15 | 650 | 155.87 | 24 |
Jos Buttler | 14 | 538 | 163.03 | 24 |
It was Gujarat's bowling that let them down in the last few matches, with them conceding 200 runs on a regular basis, which meant a little too much for Gujarat Titans' batters.
The likes of Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj, both of whom started the tournament well, were not able to keep up the good work come the playoffs, and didn't get support from the other end either.
As far as the performance of Gujarat Titans' spin bowling department is concerned, the duo of Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan failed to make any significant contribution with respect to picking up wickets in the middle overs.
Although Sai Kishore began the tournament by picking heaps of wickets in the initial few matches, but wasn't used a lot as the season progressed.
Highest Wicket Takers
Player | Matches | Wickets | Economy | 5w |
Prasidh Krishna | 15 | 25 | 8.27 | 0 |
Sai Kishore | 15 | 19 | 9.24 | 0 |
Mohammed Siraj | 15 | 16 | 9.24 | 0 |
