Gujarat bowler Aarya Desai came up with a magical effort with the ball in the ongoing game against Uttarakhand. The Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match between the teams is taking place at the Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad, which kick started on Thursday (23rd January).
Uttarakhand won the toss and opted to bat first. However, the decision turned out to be extremely bizarre for them. This was because Gujarat bowler Aarya Desai was all over the batters and made a mockery of the opposition with his sensational spell of spin bowling.
Aarya Desai didn't take long to make an impact, picking three wickets in 5th over of the innings
Desai took the new ball for his team and made sure that he didn't take long to make an impact. He removed Priyanshu Khanduri in the 5th over and then sent Uttarakhand skipper Samarath R packing for a golden duck. In the same over, he removed Yuvraj Chaudhary to take his team off to a flying start.
Desai then made the next impact in the 11th over when he trapped Kunal Chandela in lbw. The right-arm spinner then removed Mayank Mishra before sending Aveensha Sudha packing for 30 runs. The opening batter slammed 30 runs and held the one end for his team with the bat.
Desai then trapped Aditya Tare in lbw and then wrapped up the tail quickly. He also removed Abhay Negi and Deepak Dhapola to take nine wickets in an innings. His magical effort with the ball saw Gujarat bundling out the Uttarakhand team for just 111 runs in 30 overs.
Aarya Desai gave away 39 runs and took 9 wickets
21-year-old Desai spun a web around the Uttarakhand batters. He bowled 15 overs in his spell and also delivered 5 maiden overs as well. The spinner also gave away 39 runs and took 9 wickets, putting his team at the top right from the start. His economy of 2.40 was the standout of his bowling.
For Uttarakhand, Shashwat Dangwal was the top run-getter for his team as he played an unbeaten innings of 35 runs off 49 balls. He hit one 5 fours and one six during his knock end and helped his team go past the total of 100 runs, which at one moment seemed impossible.
Aarya Desai was unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction
While he was impressive with the ball, Aarya Desai didn't have a great outing with the bat. He opened the innings for his team and scored just 6 runs off 8 balls. He was trapped in lbw by Mayank Mishra as he slammed just one boundary in his innings before taking a long walk back to the pavilion.
Aarya Desai was unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. But with the kind of performance that he displayed in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 game, he surely would be on the radar of some big teams, especially with some injuries expected around the corner.
