The English pacer will now be under the supervision of England’s medical staff. There are no reports disclosed by the England Cricket Board about the return to Atkinson.

"He will now undergo a period of rehabilitation under the supervision of the England medical team. No replacement will be added to the ODI squad." the ECB said in a statement.

Gus Atkinson’s return for the India Test series is not confirmed, but according to the English media reports, Atkinson will be fit for the five-Test-match series against India, which will commence on June 20.

ECB hasn’t announced any replacement for Atkinson in the ODI squad for the three-match ODI series against West Indies.

Jofra Archer is also ruled out of the West Indies series

Jofra Archer was also in the squad of the England team for the ODI series against West Indies, but he was also ruled out due to a thumb injury.

Archer sustained the thumb injury in the IPL 2025 before the suspension of the tournament and didn’t return to the IPL after the suspension. Archer is also monitored closely by the England medical team and is likely to return for the Test series against India.

Luke Woods replaced Jofra Archer from England’s squad for the West Indies ODI series.

Harry Brook’s captaincy debut

The England vs West Indies white-ball series will be the first series for Harry Brook as the skipper. The England management selected Brook to take over the new role in the England team.

England is looking to give time to Brook to settle into the squad as the skipper, and their qualification for the World Cup 2027 will be at stake in his captaincy.

Currently, England are in eighth position in the rankings, and the top eight teams will directly qualify for the World Cup 2027. Whereas, the West Indies are in ninth position in the world ranking.
