Ishwar Pandey, a former player for the Chennai Super Kings, has acknowledged that he would have continued to play for the Indian team if MS Dhoni had shown more confidence in him.
Pandey finished his career with 263 wickets from 75 matches after playing his final First-Class game against Kerala in March of this year.

Many players who played for India under MS Dhoni continued to play, while others did not. Many talented players were able to fulfil their dreams of competing for the Indian squad because of Dhoni. Even while leading the Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni saw the true potential in young people and gave them opportunities. The majority of these individuals, including Mohit Sharma, Murali Vijay, S Badrinath, and R Ashwin to name a few, received an India cap as a result of their outstanding IPL performances.

There were a select few players, though, who performed admirably for CSK but were not chosen for India. Ishwar Pandey, a fast bowler, was one of them and on Monday he declared his retirement from all forms of cricket.

When he was chosen for the 2014 Test squad to travel to New Zealand, Pandey came the closest to earning an India cap. Pandey claimed that his career would have taken a different turn if Dhoni had shown a little more confidence in him and perhaps given him a few chances.

“If Dhoni had given a chance, my career would have been different. Then I was 23-24 years old and my fitness was also very good. Had Dhoni Bhai given me a chance and I would have done well for the country, my career would have been different for sure,” Pandey was quoted as saying by The Dainik Jagran.
The fast bowler from Madhya Pradesh played for CSK and Rising Pune Supergiants in the IPL and was a member of the MP team that became the first team to ever win the Ranji Trophy.
