Hanuma Vihari Named Captain As Rest Of India Squad Announced For The Irani Cup

The rest of the India squad for the upcoming Irani Cup has been announced. Indian batter Hanuma Vihari has been named as the captain of the team that will face Ranji champions Saurashtra beginning October 1 in Rajkot. 

Apart from Hanuma Vihari his teammates from South Zone in Mayank Agarwal, B Sai Sudharsan, and fast bowler Vidwath Kaverappa have also made the cut into the Rest of India squad for the Irani Cup 2023. KS Bharat and Dhruv Jurel are the two keeper batters in the team. 

In the absence of players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and others, who will be playing in Asian Games 2023, young batters Yash Dhull and Rohan Kunnummal have been given the opportunity in the Rest of India’s squad for the Irani Cup. 

Sarfaraz Khan, who had a poor outing in the Duleep Trophy 2023, has also made the cut into the squad. Whereas Sai Sudharsan, who is currently having a county stint with Surrey, too has been included and will join the team directly on his arrival in India. 

The bowling department of the Rest of India has some notable names. Akash Deep, Navdeep Saini along with Karnataka’s Vidwath Kaverappa are the three frontline pacers in the team along with left-arm seamer Yash Dayal. Uttar Pradesh’s Saurabh Kumar and Shams Mulani are the two frontline spinners. Whereas Delhi’s Pulkit Narang is also selected.

Saurashtra’s squad for the Irani Cup 2023 

Saurashtra, who beat Bengal in the final of the Ranji Trophy, also named their squad for the Irani Trophy 2023 recently. Jaydev Unadkat will be leading the team whereas Cheteshwar Pujara along with Sheldon Jackson are also in the team.
