Hardik Pandya to take over? Jay Shah drops bombshell on 'captain' Rohit Sharma's future, guarantees India's Champions Trophy, WTC wins

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has given a warning to the other teams before next year's WTC final and the Champions Trophy. Both the important tournaments are scheduled to be played in the next year with the Champions Trophy to be played first and the World Test Championship final to be held later.

India is believed to be one of the favorites for both these tournaments. Recently, the Men in Blue broke the deadlock of ICC tournaments by winning the T20 World Cup 2024. This was India's first ICC title in 11 years. They last won the Champions Trophy in 2013 under MS Dhoni.

India have made it to three ICC tournament finals in the past one year which shows their consistency in big events. But unfortunately, the Men in Blue have won just one final out of these three games. They suffered heartbreaking defeats in the WTC final and ODI World Cup final to Australia in 2023 but made sure to end their ICC trophy drought by defeating South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final.

In a video released by BCCI, Jay Shah congratulated Team India for winning the T20 World Cup 2024. He dedicated this win to Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja.

"Congratulations to Team India for this historic win. I want to dedicate this win to head coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. This was out third final in the past one year. We lost in the WTC (World Test Championship) Finals in 2023. In November 2023, we won hearts after winning 10 games in a row but couldn't win the Cup," Jay Shah said.

While this tournament was Rahul Dravid's last assignment as India's head coach, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja have announced their retirement from T20Is.

Shah also thanked Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya for their important contribution in the last five overs of the final.

"I said earlier in Rajkot that in June 2024, we will win both the trophy and hearts, and will hoist the Indian flag and our captain did exactly that. The last five overs played a big role in this win. I thank Suryakumar Yadav, (Jasprit) Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya for their valuable contribution in the last five overs," Shah said.

Jay Shah gives warning to other teams before WTC finals and Champions Trophy

The BCCI secretary further stated that the team's next step is to win the WTC finals and Champions Trophy, which will be held next year. He showed full faith in Rohit Sharma's captaincy and backed him to lift both the trophies.

"Our next step is the WTC finals and the Champions Trophy now. I have full confidence that under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, we will become champions in both these tournaments. I want to thank you all. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat, Vande Mataram!" Shah added.

India is currently on top of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table and is in a good state to qualify for their third WTC final in a row.
