England white-ball captain Harry Brook and fellow teammate Jacob Bethell have been reprimanded by the ECB over the misconduct during a night out while on their tour to New Zealand. However, Josh Tongue has been spared.
England had toured New Zealand for a massive white-ball series in 2025, and many players who were not part of the team had also traveled alongside them to adapt to the conditions before the start of the Ashes series in Australia.
Josh Tongue was one of the players who had traveled to New Zealand for the same purpose; however, he was also part of the same misconduct, which involved the England captain Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell.
Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell have been strongly reprimanded over misconduct on tour to NZ
Harry Brook, Jacob Bethell, and Josh Tongue, the three English cricketers, were on a night out in the New Zealand capital, Wellington, back in October during the Three Lions tour to New Zealand. They went out the night before an ODI on the 1st of November.
Brook, during this visit, was punched by a nightclub bouncer. The Cricketer Regulator, who enforced the game's regulations, has now concluded its investigation into the incident and has issued a caution notice to the two English cricketers.
However, action was not taken against the pacer, Josh Tongue, who was not part of the squad for the ODI against New Zealand. He has been training with the group in preparation for the Ashes series. Brook was issued a final warning alongside the fine.
Harry Brook revealed a massive lie
The English captain went on to claim that the English fans have every right to be annoyed with his behaviour, and also did not back down from issuing a public apology. However, Harry Brook had then claimed that he was alone when the bouncer clocked him down.
However, the captain revealed the truth following the Cricket Regulators' investigations. He has been trying to protect his teammates from further investigations that could have affected their morale ahead of a crucial Ashes series.
England went on to face a crushing defeat in the New Zealand ODI series, as the series ended in a massive 3-0 defeat for the English cricketers.
English players have been criticised for off-field misbehaviors
England have failed to be promising on their recent tours, especially on the white-ball series in New Zealand and the red-ball Ashes. They lost both the series and the Ashes in humiliating fashion.
England players have been widely criticised for their off-field behaviour during the Ashes as well. There were scenes of extreme drinking activities during the Ashes, and the English cricketers were spotted in nightclubs.
It was once again Jacob Bethell whose name had surfaced on these claims, and the Noosa incident followed, prompting the English players to realize that they should be focusing on the cricket now. ECB director Rob Key had then reasoned that it is not easy to fix cricket's relationship with alcohol.
