England batsman Harry Brook has admitted he regrets the comments directed at the fans during the IPL earlier this year. After taking international cricket by storm, Harry Brook earned his maiden IPL contract.
Sunrisers Hyderabad secured his services for a whopping amount of Rs 13.25 crore. However, the highly-rated batsman failed to live up to the expectations and made a poor start to his IPL career. In his first three outings, he registered scores of 13, 3, and 13 and was written off by many. The fans constantly trolled and criticized him on social media as England’s batting sensation failed to justify the price tag.
However, he bounced back in style by smashing a whirlwind century in his fourth innings. The right-handed batsman scored a 55-ball ton against Kolkata Knight Riders and became the first player to reach the triple-digit mark in IPL 2023. While he would have expected some praise from the fans after the knock, things only turned a bit sour as he hit back at them.
Speaking after the century, Harry Brook had said: “I just went out there with an ‘I don’t care’ mentality tonight and thankfully it came off. There are a lot of Indian fans out there who’ll say ‘well done’ tonight. But they were slagging me off a few days ago. Glad I could shut them up, to be honest.”
Harry Brook regrets his comments:
In a recent interview, Harry Brook has said he ‘was an idiot’ for his comments against the Indian fans and stated that he regrets it. He also revealed that he has deleted his phone’s social media apps to shield himself from negativity.
“I was an idiot and I said that stupid thing in an interview which I regret a little bit,” Harry Brook was quoted as saying by the BBC.
“In India, you end up sitting in your hotel room, not much to do so I find myself just scrolling Instagram or Twitter or whatever and come across stuff you just don’t want to see. I thought it was the right idea to get off it. I’ve obviously still got Instagram and Twitter but thankfully I’ve got someone running it for me.
“I’ve been off social media for a while now, anything I stumble across, I delete it from the phone. I haven’t really seen any negativity, I think that’s helped my game, helped my mental health and everything to be off social media and seeing all the negativity that brings,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad have released Harry Brook after his poor performance in IPL 2023. Despite the century in only his fourth innings, the England star finished the competition with a modest 190 runs in 11 matches. He is currently in the Caribbeans with the England team.
