England white-ball captain Harry Brook shed some more light on their controversial act in Wellington in October last year, which broke out publicly days after the actual incident. In a recent media brief, Brook openly admitted that he has to learn more as the limited-overs captain of the England cricket team.
Brook's revelation came after their win against Sri Lanka yesterday (January 20) at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Balagolla. The middle-order batter admitted that he was on his own when a nightclub bouncer punched him on a night out in Wellington in October. He also stated that there were a few other England national cricket team players as well at that nightclub.
Harry Brook confessed his mistake publicly
"I accept responsibility for my actions in Wellington and acknowledge that others were present that evening," Harry Brook said after the Sri Lanka vs. England first match of the series.
The star cricketer of England also claimed that whatever he said in the past was only to protect his own teammates. Later, he realised that being a captain of the national team, his duty comes with more responsibility.
"I regret my previous comments, and my intention was to protect my teammates from being drawn into a situation that arose as a result of my own decisions."
Harry Brook was about to lose his job as England captain
Brook's comments came after a report in the Telegraph revealed that Brook, Jacob Bethell, and Josh Tongue were all under investigation by the Cricket Regulator following the incident on the eve of England's third ODI against New Zealand in October.
A few weeks ago, when England was brutally punished on the field by the Australia cricket team for the Ashes 2025-26, the English cricketers' off-the-field actions came under the spotlight.
It was suspected that irresponsible-like behavior out of the ground might have affected the team's on-field performance as well. Australia, the home team, won the prestigious tournament with ease, crushing England by 4-1 in the 5-match Test series.
Ahead of the Melbourne Test in December, England's managing director, Rob Key, told journalists that "no formal action" had been taken after the incident. For the nightclub incident, Brook was fined £30,000 along with a final warning. He came close to losing his place as England's white-ball captain.
The bouncer just clocked me: Harry Brook
"We went out for a couple of drinks beforehand, and then I took it upon myself to go out for a few more, and I was on my own there," Brook had said.
"I was trying to get into a club, and the bouncer just clocked me, unfortunately. Like I said, I shouldn't have been in that situation from the start... I wasn't absolutely leathered; I'd had one too many drinks."
To conclude his media brief, Harry Brook made a public apology, stating that he needs to be more responsible as the leader of the team, and he is learning more about his job.
