Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliant five-wicket haul in the first innings of the ongoing first Test between India and England at Headingley didn’t just silence critics, but also sparked a bold response from his broadcaster wife Sanjana Ganesan, on Monday, June 23.

Sanjana Ganesan, who is also currently in England on her broadcasting duty, called out the doubters who constantly question Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness and commitment during the lunch break on Day 4 of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy opener at Headingley.

The well-known presenter shared how people often judge players too quickly. She said that fans only see what happens on the field and forget that there’s much more going on behind the scenes. Bumrah’s wife further pointed out that the fans and critics don’t see the hard work, the struggles, or how much effort players put in to stay fit and perform well for their country.

Sanjana Ganesan was quoted as saying by Sony Sports: “In the short time that I’ve known and been married to a professional athlete, I’ve realised that people don’t know every aspect of your life — they only know what you choose to show them. They know Jasprit Bumrah on a cricket field, but they don’t know what he’s like at home or off the field.”

Ganesan also admitted how being in the public eye naturally brings opinions, both good and bad. She explained that it's important to separate public views from real life. She also reminded everyone that behind every opinion are real people, and it's important to respond with kindness and respect.

She signed off by saying, “So, I’ve tried to separate who we are as people from public opinion — and it’s just a lot more peaceful inside your head when you do that. But at the end of the day, you have to remember that people on both sides of every opinion are human beings, and you have to treat them with respect and kindness.”

Jasprit Bumrah equals Kapil Dev's Test record

Well, Jasprit Bumrah once again proved to be India’s main man with the ball, picking up a brilliant five-wicket haul and helping India to bowl England out for 465 in their first innings after India posted 471 runs in their first innings in the ongoing first Test.

With this five-wicket haul, Bumrah now has 12 five-wicket hauls in away Tests, equalling the legendary Kapil Dev, but the Indian pacer did it in just 34 matches, while the former captain took 66.

Notably, Bumrah and Sanjana Ganesan tied the knot on 15 March 2021 in Goa. Their friendship began in 2013 when they first met during an IPL interview. A professional interaction soon turned into a close friendship. After dating for two years, they decided to get married.

Before marrying the former Miss India finalist Sanjana, Bumrah revealed that he proposed to the popular anchor and broadcaster in November 2020, and just a few months later, they became man and wife. On 4 September 2023, the couple welcomed their son, Angad.
