Kolkata Knight Riders have roped in Gautam Gambhir as the mentor of their team ahead of IPL 2024. After his appointment, Nitish Rana welcomed him with a heartwarming post on X.
Gautam Gambhir was the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants team in the last couple of seasons. However, he has now parted ways with the franchise. Gambhir is a former captain of Kolkata Knight Riders. He led the team to IPL titles in the 2012 and 2014 seasons.

Nitish Rana Welcomes KKR Mentor Gautam Gambhir
After Gautam Gambhir was appointed as Kolkata Knight Riders mentor, Nitish Rana welcomed him with a heartwarming post on X. Nitish Rana said that he never imagined that he would share the field with Gautam Gambhir.
“As a kid watching cricket, I never imagined I’d one day share the field and wear the same colors as my idol, @GautamGambhir bhai. Now, having him as our mentor at @KKRiders is nothing short of a dream. His leadership led to glory, and I can’t wait to learn and grow under his guidance. Gautam Gambhir had a marvelous career in the Indian Premier League. From IPL 2008 to 2018, he played 154 games and mustered 4218 runs averaging 31.01. He also shammed 36 half-centuries in the league.

Under Gambhir’s leadership, KKR won the IPL trophies in the 2012 and 2014 seasons. Later, Gambhir switched to his home team Dehli Daredevils. However, due to the team’s poor show, he left the tournament midway through the season. Later, he did not participate in further IPL tournaments.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer is the skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders. In the last two seasons, KKR failed to reach the playoffs. In IPL 2023, Nitish Rana led the side in the absence of injured Iyer. However, KKR could not reach playoffs after finishing in the 7th spot in the points table.
