Stylish Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav is gearing to make his ODI debut for the national team during the upcoming series series Sri Lanka.
Yadav, who has been knocking on the door of Indian cricket via consistent performances in both IPL and domestic cricket, finally got his due this year as he made his T20I debut against England.
He did not get a chance to bat in his debut game and was even dropped for the next match to accommodate Rohit Sharma but the 30-year-old eventually made his presence felt as he smashed a whirlwind half-century in his maiden innings for Team India in the 4th T20I.
Yadav batted at the No.3 spot in the 4th and 5th T20I and for that, the right-hander expressed his gratitude towards skipper Virat Kohli during a recent conversation with Harsha Bhogle on CricBuzz.
The Mumbai Indians cricketer revealed that getting to bat at the No.3 spot for a huge boost for him and Virat Kohli’s decision helped him calm his emotions.
“I have lots of respect for Virat Kohli, I enjoyed playing against him. The energy he brings in the field I have always looked up to in my career and giving me his number 3 spot in T20 was a big boost for me. He calmed my emotions on that day,” said SKY while speaking of Virat to Harsha Bhogle.
‘Rohit Sharma as a captain is very clear in his mind’- Suryakumar Yadav
SKY has achieved great success in the IPL ever since he joined the Mumbai Indians in 2018.
Since then, the stylish Mumbai cricketer has become one of the bedrocks of their batting unit.
Yadav was asked about the leadership style of Rohit Sharma and the 30-year-old responded by stating that the 5-time IPL-winning captain is very clear in his thought process and he always keeps his team ahead of himself.
“Rohit Sharma as a captain is very clear in his mind about the changes he wants to make in bowling and fielding. 5 titles in 8 years is a great achievement, his ability to keep the team ahead of himself is a quality everyone admires,” he added.
The upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka will be a great opportunity for Surya to build on the good start that he has had in international cricket and solidify his spot for the T20 World Cup later this year.
