Veteran India pacer Mohammad Shami has opined on new India white-ball captain Rohit Sharma and called him supportive while speaking in an interview to ANI. Shami, who was seen in the South Africa Test matches recently, has been rested by the BCCI for the ongoing West Indies white-ball series.
India recently white-washed West Indies 3-0 in the ODI series which was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad. It was the first series for Rohit Sharma as full-time ODI series and earlier he had white-washed New Zealand 3-0 in his first series as full-time T20I captain, after he took over Virat Kohli.
Mohammad Shami praised Rohit Sharma and called him a good captain and that he has been always supportive to him.
“Rohit no doubt is a good captain. He has won many IPL seasons and is a great leader. He has been really supportive to me, as we both have been playing for a long time now,” Shami told ANI.

Mohammad Shami was one of the premier buys in the latest IPL 2022 auction, which he entered after he was not retained by his old franchise, Punjab Kings. The right-arm pacer had made his IPL debut in 2011 for Kolkata Knight Riders and since then has played for Delhi Capitals, and had then joined the Punjab franchise in IPL 2019.
In all, Shami had picked 79 wickets in as many matches with an economy of 8.62 and best bowling figures of 3/15. Shami was not retained by the Punjab Kings ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, as they only kept Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh in their kitty and have rebuilt their entire squad.
Shami was bought by Gujarat Titans for INR 6.25 crores in the IPL 2022 mega auction. He will have Lockie Ferguson, Alzarri Joseph, Varun Aaron, Pradeep Sangwan, and Dominic Drakes for company in the pace bowling unit at his new franchise is based out of Ahmedabad.
The right-arm pacer from Bengal is expected to be seen in action against Sri Lanka when the islanders visit India for a series of two Tests and three T20I matches in late February.
