"The score was not enough.": RCB skipper Rajat Patidar backs his bowlers putting the blame onto the batting side

Royal Challengers Bengaluru started their campaign on a high note, but have struggled to keep up with the momentum of their campaign as they have had bumps in their momentum from time to time. After this defeat to the Gujarat Titans, they still hold on to their spot in the second position, but faced a massive downfall in their net run rate, which was soaring high until now.

The Gujarat Titans attacked the weak point in Rajat Patidar's team as they were pushed to bat first, which has not been their strength in particular this season. After a spectacular bowling spell, the Titans were on a roll and looked to finish the chase as soon as possible.

The Shubman Gill-led GT side have finally avenged their loss at the Chinnaswamy with a promising show at their home ground in Ahmedabad and have added two more points to their points tally. RCB could not defend the small total despite the fall of wickets.

RCB struggled despite a staggering start from Virat Kohli

The Rajat Patidar's side made a positive start with Virat Kohli doing the majority of the run-scoring in the powerplay. Kohli smashed a quick 28 runs off Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj, as he handed them a perfect start.

After Kohli's dismissal, skipper Rajat Patidar and Devdutt Padikkal helped them through the powerplay, but then some exquisite fielding efforts from Jason Holder helped Titans bounce back into the match.

RCB were in grave danger as wickets kept falling at regular intervals, with every GT bowler striking in those middle overs. Arshad Khan picked three while Holder and Rashid Khan picked two wickets each, thus dismissing the Challengers for a score of 155.

Shubman Gill's quick start and Jos Buttler's momentum helped GT chase the timid target

With the experienced bowling lineup for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, even chasing a score of 158 was not an easy task for the Gujarat Titans batters. As Rajat Patidar's bowling unit of Bhuvneshwar Kumar once again bowled his tight lengths and picked the wickets of the top three batters in the GT lineup who have contributed around 70% of the franchise's runs in this season of the IPL.

However, the early carnage from Shubman Gill and then Jos Buttler before they were dismissed had done the majority of the work, and the finishing touch was handed by the partnership between Rahul Tewatiya and Jason Holder towards the back end of the innings.

Rashid Khan played the winning shot, and GT finished the chase with 25 balls remaining in the innings, and RCB surprisingly had bowled out only their four bowlers in the innings.

I think the score was not good enough- Rajat Patidar

"I think the score was not good enough, but I think the way we bowled and stretched it to 15, 16 overs, I think that's a positive sign for us. Definitely, there's a good cover of the grass on the surface that helped fast bowlers," said RCB skipper Rajat Patidar.

Rajat Patidar praised the massive role of Shubman Gill in GT's win, "I think the way Shubman played, I think he played beautifully in the power play. And he put the pressure on us, but the way we came back and stretched till the 16th over, I think that's a positive."

"As we all know, I think he's an experienced bowler of the T20 format, and the way he bowled in the first half, I think that is incredible. But I think it's a long way, and we'll take one game at a time. There's bound to be a hiccup on the way," Patidar said in awe of Bhuvneshwar's wicket-taking ability.
