India National Cricket Team pacer Akash Deep opened up about the funny banter with Virat Kohli over his bat during the second Test against Bangladesh. He said that he told the premier batter that he got a feeling of playing a cover drive with his bat.
Akash Deep played a vital hand for his team down the order in the first innings. Playing with Virat Kohli's bat, he slammed two big sixes down the order and made sure that he helped his team go past 280 runs on the board and also take a lead of over 50 runs.
Akash smashed Shakib Al Hasan for two back-to-back massive sixes and entertained the crowd. Not only the fans but even Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Gautam Gambhir were spotted smiling after seeing the pacer hitting big sixes with the bat.
Akash talked about his conversation with Virat Kohli, saying that when he held the batter's bat, he was under pressure. However, he took things lightly and told Kohli about his desires, but the premier batter told him not to do drama. Speaking to Jio Cinema, he explained:
"Yes, it was tough. But I don't know what happened to bhaiya, he suddenly came and said 'Le, tujhe bat chahiye tha na, le khel'. So it got easy. Yes, there was pressure, as when I held the bat, I told him it was giving the feel of a cover drive. He said I don't do drama; just take it. I asked him if he would take the bat or not, he said no,"
He could be the upcoming all-rounder - Abhishek Nayar on Akash Deep
India National Cricket Team assistant coach Abhishek Nayar also revealed how they forced Akash to hit a half-century after he got a bat from Virat Kohli. He revealed that the fast bowler, after receiving the bat from the premier batter, got form immediately.
Abhishek Nayar also added that Akash impressed with his batting in the nets and Rohit Sharma even promoted him up the order. He also took a cheeky jibe at the pacer, saying that with Virat Kohli's bat, he could be an upcoming all-rounder. Speaking to Jio Cinema, he added:
"Virat gave him the bat, and automatically he got the form with the bat. But he impressed us a lot in the nets. In the first match, there was discussion if we should send Bumrah or Akash Deep. But Rohit said to send Akash Deep as he had scored runs in the Duleep Trophy as well.
"He was our in-form player, and we also put that pressure that he has to score a fifty in the lower order for the team. With the bat, he could be the upcoming all-rounder, Akash Deep."
Akash was also vital with the ball in the two-match Test series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. In the two games, he picked 5 wickets and put his team in the top position in both games.
