“He takes the game on”: Steve Smith bows down to Sahibzada Farhan

Australia and Multan Sultans batter Steve Smith was all praises for his opening partner Sahibzada Farhan following Multan Sultans' win over the Rawalpindiz in the Pakistan Super League on Tuesday.
Smith scored 56 as the Sultans chased down the total of 167 with 10 balls to spare. Sultans skipper Ashton Turner put in a crucial finish to take his side to second on the PSL 2026 points table.
Each franchise will be playing 10 matches in the group stage. Sultans have now won six out of their eight matches and have one foot inside the playoffs.

Speaking to the media after the game, Smith was asked his opinion on the quality present in the league. Smith said that the PSL was a very good league.
"I mean there's a lot of impressive players, you know it's been a really good league. There's so much talent here that's for sure, you know [in] our team, we have got a lot of quality players in it." Smith said.

Smith further talked about his working relationship with star Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan.
"Farhan obviously up top. It's been nice to bat with him the way he takes the game on, you know we we've been able to work with each other and you know one day I might get off to a flyer and he gets off to a bit of a slower start and the next day he'll get off to a flyer and I'll get off to a slower start, so it's been a nice partnership to have him". Smith said.
Currently, Farhan is the highest run getter for Multan Sultans in the tournament. He has made 269 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of over 173. He has also made a fifty and a hundred in this tournament. Farhan is also one of only four batters to make a century in PSL 2026, with the others being Kusal Mendis, Babar Azam, and Fakhar Zaman.

Steve Smith then touched upon the performance of bowlers, both from his team and across the league as well.
"In terms of bowling, you know there's been loads of quality performers around all the teams and yeah our boys are slowly getting better and better. I thought they bowled exceptionally well today to restrict them to 167 and hopefully they'll keep getting better in the next few games as well." He concluded.
Currently, left-arm spinner Arafat Minhas and pacer Peter Siddle are the joint highest wicket takers for Multan Sultans in the PSL with 9 wickets each.
Multan Sultans next match
Steve Smith's Multan Sultans will take on sixth-placed Hyderabad Kingsmen on April 22. This will be the Sultans' second-last league stage match in the tournament. A win in this match is sure to land them a playoffs spot.
