"He Was On Top Of Our List..." - Faf du Plessis On Cameron Green's IPL Trade
Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis will be there at the auction table for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2024 auction that is set to take place in Dubai on December 19. He has taken charge of the team after Virat Kohli stepped down as the skipper and has done a decent job as the skipper for the Bengaluru-based franchise.
Faf du Plessis talked about the areas that need improvement and he pointed out the middle-order batting unit of the team. Talking about the pre-auction trading, he expressed his delight in the deal completed with Mumbai Indians involving the trade of all-rounder Cameron Green. Green only played one season for the Mumbai-based franchise but since they acquired Hardik Pandya back from Gujarat Titans they thought of releasing Cameron Green who is a player of similar calibre.
In an interview with NDTV, Faf said: “After last season we had a few areas where we thought like we needed to improve. Setting in terms of personnel in order to make us a stronger team. One of the areas that we talked about was getting a strong middle-order batting, so that’s why I’m in the auction process.”
Faf du Plessis Explains The Importance Of A Player Like Cameron Green
Faf du Plessis revealed that Cameron Green was on top of the list for Royal Challengers Bangalore in terms of the type of all-rounder they were looking at. He said that the conditions at Chinnaswamy needed RCB to have someone who can hit the ball hard and create that extra bounce as a bowler and the trade with Mumbai Indians for Green went RCB’s way.
“The guys thought we needed to release some money to make sure that we go to the auction having the option of buying one of the best options around in that crawl. So, for us, it worked out really well, the Cameron Green trade obviously with Mumbai. He was at the top of our list in terms of the type of all-rounder that we are looking at. At Chinnaswamy, someone who can hit the ball hard, from the bowling perspective can get that extra bounce in those conditions,” he added.
Royal Challengers Bangalore will probably miss the services of Josh Hazlewood who will be missing out on some part of the tournament as he is expecting the birth of his first child. Faf du Plessis added that the franchise will be looking to get an overseas fast bowler in the auctions and will also focus on acquiring two or three Indian bowlers.
