In a shocking statement by former Pakistani cricketer Atiq-uz-Zaman, head coach Gary Kirsten can be removed from his role as Pakistan's head coach if he becomes strict on players. Recently, Gary Kirsten was in the news for reportedly lambasting the Pakistan cricket team after their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign was over.

According to the reports, Kirsten was furious with the team's dressing room atmosphere and told the players that there was no unity in the team and he had never seen such a situation. Journalist Ihtisham Ul Haq had made Kirsten's comments public through his social media handle.

“There’s no unity in Pakistan’s team, They call it a team, but it isn’t a team. They aren’t supporting each other; everyone is separated, left and right. I’ve worked with many teams, but I’ve never seen such a situation," Kirsten said as quoted by Ihtisham Ul Haq on X.

'He will be removed from the coaching if...' - Atiq-uz-Zaman on Gary Kirsten's statements

Former Pakistan cricketer and coach Atiq-uz-Zaman gave a shocking statement on Gary Kirsten's reported strictness on Pakistan players. Zaman claimed that Kirsten could be removed from the role (of head coach) if he gets too strict on the players.

"The problems will arise for Gary Kirsten. He will be removed from the coaching if he gets strict. In Pakistan, the players' power has been ongoing since the nineties. Players have controlled the system. If a player wants, a coach comes. Whoever they like will coach the team and a coach can be removed as well upon their wish," Zaman claimed while speaking to PakPassion.net.

"I won't be surprised if Gary Kirsten gets fired by saying that he cannot adjust in our culture," he added.

Atiq-uz-Zaman played 1 Test and 3 ODIs for Pakistan in the year 2000. His international career didn't prove to be too long as he had the misfortune of competing with great wicketkeepers Moin Khan and Rashid Latif. He later took upon professional coaching as his job.

Tough times for Pakistan cricket

Pakistan cricket has been going through a difficult time right now. The team suffered an early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024 as they failed to qualify for the Super 8 stage.

In their first match of the tournament, Pakistan suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of the USA and then lost a close game to arch-rivals India. Although they won their next two games against Canada and Ireland, that wasn't enough to secure their qualification to the Super 8 stage.

It remains to be seen if the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will take any action against Gary Kirsten for his statements. The team is likely to undergo some wholesale changes for their next international assignment.

Pakistan's exit meant the USA's shocking entry into the T20 World Cup Super 8 stage for the first time. India topped Group A with 7 points while the USA finished second with 5 points. Pakistan, meanwhile, finished third in their group with 4 points.
