The SA20 Auction 2026 turned into a blockbuster event for both Dewald Brevis and Aiden Markram on September 9 in Johannesburg, setting the stage for the fourth season starting December 26. Dewald Brevis and Aiden Markram both made SA20 history on Tuesday.

Dewald Brevis became the most expensive player ever in the history of the SA20 after Pretoria Capitals snapped him up for a staggering R16.5 million. The young South African batting sensation played a key role in MI Cape Town’s maiden title win last year.

Dewald Brevis makes SA20 history

He had smashed 291 runs at an incredible average of 48.5 and a strike rate of 184.18. His stocks have risen since then, shining in the IPL 2025 for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as well as shining for the Proteas side in the international arena. Recently, he made waves in Australia.

The explosive batter has already become a household name in the world. Now, Dewald Brevis got the reward of his talent, as the Pretoria Capitals outbid the Joburg Super Kings, the Chennai Super Kings’ sister franchise, to secure his explosive talent for the next season.

Aiden Markram becomes SA20’s second most expensive player ever

Meanwhile, South Africa’s T20I captain Aiden Markram also lit up the auction, becoming the second costliest player in SA20 history. Markram, who entered the auction at a base price of R500,000, triggered a heated bidding war between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals.

Even Sunrisers Eastern Cape used the RTM card at R12000K, but in the end, Durban Super Giants won the battle with a jaw-dropping R14 million bid. Markram had won the two SA20 titles for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, but he will now play for the Durban Super Giants. He became the first player to breach R10 million in SA20 auction history.

On the other hand, Proteas wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock joined the Sunrisers Eastern Cape for R2.4 million, while Pretoria Capitals acquired the services of the pace spearhead Lungi Ngidi for R2.3 million, strengthening their bowling attack for the upcoming SA20 season.

Wiaan Mulder, Matthew Breetzke, Devon Conway among big buys in SA20 Auction 2026

Additionally, Durban Super Giants have signed Devon Conway for R325,000 and young left-arm pacer Kwena Maphaka for R2.3 million, adding both experience and fresh talent to their squad. Sunrisers Eastern Cape have made a massive statement by securing top-order batter Matthew Breetzke for a whopping R6.1 million, strengthening their batting lineup.

Joburg Super Kings have also snapped up South Africa’s highest Test scorer, Wiaan Mulder, for R9 million. On the other hand, Pretoria Capitals signed the Proteas spin ace Keshav Maharaj for R1.7 million, adding depth and experience to their bowling attack.

With 541 players, including 300 South Africans and 241 overseas, fighting for 84 open slots across six franchises, the ongoing auction becomes intense. The combined purse of US$7.37 million and a salary cap of US$2.31 million per team makes SA20 the world’s second-richest T20 league after the Indian Premier League (IPL).
