Jasprit Bumrah bowls an exceptional spell in the Eliminator
In the Eliminator of the Indian Premier League 2025, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans locked horns with each other at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh.
The 5-time champions had a sensational outing with the bat as they piled up a colossal score of 228/5, thanks to brilliant contributions from Rohit Sharma, Jonny Bairstow, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Tilak Varma.
Defending the score, Mumbai Indians got two early wickets but were put under pressure by the partnership between Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar.
That was when Hardik Pandya brought back Jasprit Bumrah into the attack, and he castled Washington Sundar with a deadly 143 kmph yorker. From thereon, things only went in the Mumbai Indians' favor, and they restricted the opposition to 208/6. Bumrah gave away 27 runs by taking one wicket in his four overs.
He's like an antidote - Jasprit Bumrah leaves Varun Aaron awestruck
Speaking on ESPNcricinfo Time Out, Varun Aaron praised Bumrah and highlighted how he calmed down Mahela Jayawardene, who was trying to give him too many instructions near the boundary ropes, and quickly bagged a wicket. He said:
"He's like an antidote, a vaccine that can cure any illness, which a bowling side can have. If you want wickets, he comes and gets you wickets. If you want to stop runs, he stops runs for you. Man, what a bowler.
"And the belief he has in his ability. You have an international coach [Mahela Jayawardene] who is obviously panicking because his bowlers have suddenly started to go to the cleaners, and he just turns around and is like 'just calm down, I'll do the job for you'. Comes in, runs in, gets hit for a six and then gets that ball."
The thing with Bumrah is that he's got that genuine wicket-taking ability - Tom Moody
Meanwhile, the IPL-winning coach Tom Moody has said that the opposition teams fear Jasprit Bumrah as he has got a genuine wicket-taking ability. He stated:
"The challenge every opposition has to Mumbai Indians, and Jasprit Bumrah more importantly, is that the 24 balls he bowls are such a threat. It's not impossible but it's so difficult to get big overs against him. So you're really playing 20 overs versus 16 to a certain extent. And he is so far ahead of the rest, it's ridiculous.
"The thing with Bumrah is that he's got that genuine wicket-taking ability just through his pure class. That yorker he bowled to Washington Sundar, you just don't bowl a better ball than that. That is the absolute perfect leg-stump yorker that's gone between his legs. At pace. To a batter that's in. Set."
Bumrah is currently the sixth leading wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League 2025 with 18 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 15.33, an economy of 6.36, and a strike rate of 14.44.
