Ace speedster Dale Steyn has picked Pakistani captain and star batter Babar Azam as the best batter across formats currently in reply to a fan question on Twitter. Over the past few years, Babar’s stock has raised stupendously.
The Pakistan skipper is currently the top-ranked batter in men’s ODI and T20I rankings and is also among the top-5 in the longest format of the game. Babar is the only batter to feature in the top-5 in ICC Rankings across all formats of the game.
Babar Azam recently became the first cricketer to win the ICC Player of the Month awards two successive times thanks to his incredible performances for Pakistan against Australia.
Maybe Babar?- Dale Steyn On The Best Batter Currently Across Formats
Babar Azam hit his highest Test score of 196 against Australia in the second Test of the historic three-match series, in Karachi, helping Pakistan draw the Test match. Pakistan lost the Test series 1-0 to Australia, but came back to win the ODI series 2-1, then lost the one-off T20I match.
The 27-year-old batter slammed two centuries during the three-Test series against the side, and repeated the feat in the three-match ODI series. In the sole T20I, Babar top-scored for Pakistan with 66 runs off 46 deliveries.
During a Q&A session on Twitter, a fan asked Dale Steyn to pick a name among the current generation of cricketers who can carry the ‘best batsman’ tag, and the former pacer named Pakistan’s current captain Babar Azam, calling him “pretty darn good.”

Babar’s amazing batting exploits have forced cricket fans and some cricket experts to expand the renowned ‘Fab-4’ list of batters in the current scene to ‘Fab-5’, in order to include Babar Azam with the likes of Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Joe Root, and Steve Smith. The batter is likely to return to action for Pakistan in June when the side takes on the West Indies in a three-match ODI series.
