Injured India seamer Mohammed Shami sees Gautam Gambhir as a very realistic personality to replace Rahul Dravid from the India head coaching job.
Gautam Gambhir, who recently experienced success on his return season with Kolkata Knight Riders, is touted to become India's next head coach. With Rahul Dravid and his entourage's tenure coming to an end after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies, Gambhir has emerged as the most talked about option.
The wind around Gautam Gambhir becoming the new coach became stronger after the former cricketer himself admitted that he would love to coach India. In his response to a question asked in a recent Dubai event, Gambhir fuelled the fire by saying that there won't be any bigger honor than head coaching the National side.
What did Mohammed Shami say about Gautam Gambhir?
While speaking on his latest YouTube video, Mohammed Shami spoke in depth about the scenarios if Gautam Gambhir becomes the head coach. Shami started by hailing Gambhir as a legend, who has received a lot of plaudits and love from his fans. The fast bowler then highlighted KKR's success under the former opening batter's leadership in 2012 and 2014.
Mohammed Shami himself was a part of the KKR setup when Gautam Gambhir led the franchise to their maiden IPL title.
"Gautam Gambhir's name is the most talked about. He is a legend of the game, and fans have showered their love on him. As far as leadership is concerned, he has led the Indian team and the IPL team (KKR) to wins. Under his captaincy, KKR won 2 titles and became champion in 2024 under his mentorship." - Mohammed Shami said in his latest YT video.
Shami, who was the leading wicket-taker of the 2023 50-over World Cup, then spoke about Gambhir's coaching style and how the latter carries out his job. Shami claimed that Gautam Gambhir likes to be direct, on-points and he is someone who enforces discipline within the core unit, something that will help youngsters in the Indian dressing room.
Not just that, but Gambhir also helps players improve their skills, changing their temperament if necessary and counsels them as to how they can handle pressure. This surely, according to Mohammed Shami, will help the upcoming lot of players in team India.
"His coaching style is direct and enforces discipline that will help young players. He also teaches skill, temperament, and how to handle pressure to the youngsters. This can benefit the youngsters in the Indian team." - Shami concluded.
When will India announce India's next head coach?
With the deadline for applications for the India head coaching job already over on May 27th, the BCCI is expected to make a decision very soon. It is confirmed that Rahul Dravid will not extend his stay with the National side and it is certain that a new head coach will arrive in place of Dravid post the T20 World Cup.
The official announcement might come in the early weeks of July.
