Who said cricket is only for fostering entertainment and not political relations? Team India’s World Cup victory has made a great impact on India-Maldives relations, which were affected a few months ago. Maldives tourism ministry has invited the Indian Team to celebrate their T20 World Cup victory on their land.

Notably, India and Maldives relations were affected when a Maldives female politician made fun of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's post on social media. This did not go down well with the Indian government, who raised the matter with Maldives diplomats.

The matter went so deep that Indian people boycotted their trips to Maldives including celebrities and common people. Boycotting Maldives by Indians became a popular Twitter trend on social media.

Later, Maldives also faced a lot of damage as their tourism was affected. Notably, it is an island country and one of the neighbours of India in the south of Andaman and Nicobar Island.

Also, the Indian Govt decided to develop its own Andaman and Nicobar Islands to promote tourism and help people find an alternative to Maldives in future.

Maldives invite Indian Team to celebrate T20I World Cup victory

However, it seems like Indian Cricket might help to reform the broken bond between both countries in the tourism department. Recently, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) invited the Indian Cricket Team to visit Maldives after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

"Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/ Visit Maldives) in collaboration with the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) have jointly extended a special and open invitation to the Indian National Cricket Team," a statement by the duo read.

"We would be honoured to host you and ensure that your stay is filled with memorable moments, relaxation, and bespoke experiences. It would be an immense honour for the Maldives to welcome the Indian Cricket Team and share in the joy of their triumph," a spokesperson of Maldives tourism told PTI.

"We eagerly await the opportunity to host them, offering the perfect setting for them to create lasting memories of their victory celebration," he further added.

Team India got a grand welcome at home after winning the World Cup

Meanwhile, the Indian team grabbed their second T20I World Cup title in West Indies by defeating South Africa in the final on June 29.

Due to weather issues, the Rohit Sharma & Co were stuck on the Caribbean island for a few days and reached India early Thursday morning.

They were given a grand welcome in Delhi on their arrival and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met them. Later, Rohit Sharma and Boys executed a victory parade in Marine Drive in Mumbai City where lakhs of fans flooded the streets.

Team India will now travel to Sri Lanka for an ODI and T20I series starting July 27. Indian players part of the T20 World Cup are currently on a break and hence, they might accept Maldives' offer. Notably, a second-string squad under Shubman Gill is busy with a five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe.
