Historic low: India concede biggest first-innings lead at home against New Zealand

The New Zealand national cricket team has taken a massive lead after the first innings during the first Test against the India national cricket team. The Tom Latham-led side became the team to take a 200-plus runs first-innings lead against the Men in Blue in a Test match on home soil since January 2012.
Young all-rounder Rachin Ravindra and veteran cricketer Tim Southee dominated the Indian bowlers on the third day at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Ravindra scored 134 runs off 157 balls, including 13 boundaries and four sixes, as New Zealand ended their first innings with a total of 402 runs.

Devon Conway and Tom Latham provided a solid start with a 67-run partnership before Kuldeep Yadav dismissed the Kiwis skipper. Conway scored 91 runs off 105 balls, including 11 fours and three sixes. The home team made a stunning comeback on the third day by reducing New Zealand to 233/7.
However, Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee added a 137-run partnership for the eighth wicket. The duo also equaled the highest eighth wicket or lower partnership for New Zealand against India. Dion Nash and Daniel Vettori added 137 runs for the eighth wicket during a Test match in Wellington in 1998.
Southee joined Rachin when New Zealand was struggling at 233/7 on the third day. They guided the team to a total of 370 runs before Southee was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj. He scored 65 runs off 73 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes. Rachin was the last man to be dismissed in the innings.
