Hope Ravichandran Ashwin Breaks Anil Kumble's Record Of 619 Test Wickets- Nikhil Chopra

Former Indian player and commentator Nikhil Chopra wants Ravichandran Ashwin to break Anil Kumble’s record of 619 Test wickets. Anil Kumble is the top wicket-taker for India in Tests with 619 wickets in 132 matches. Ravichandran Ashwin comes next with 436 wickets.

Ashwin surpassed Kapil Dev as the 2nd highest wicket-taker for India during India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test in Mohali. Ashwin picked 6 wickets in the match to surpass Kapil Dev’s tally of 434 Test wickets. Ashwin now accounts for 436 wickets in 85 matches at an average of 24.27.

Hope Ravichandran Ashwin Breaks Anil Kumble’s Record: Nikhil Chopra

While speaking on the Khelneeti podcast on Youtube, Nikhil Chopra said that he hopes Ravichandran Ashwin breaks Anil Kumble’s record of most Test wickets for India.

“I hope that R Ashwin breaks Kumble’s record, because Kumble would be wishing that a spinner breaks his record. Just like Kumble, Ashwin has developed a reputation to win matches for the team at home. He started his career as an off-spinner, but now he has so many variations to set the batter up,” Nikhil Chopra said.

The former India all-rounder Chopra also said that Ravichandra Ashwin-Ravindra Jadeja is a formidable pair like Anil Kumble-Harbhajan Singh.

“Another thing is that if Ashwin keeps on performing like this and taking wickets, it will be good for Indian cricket. It will be good for Ravindra Jadeja as well, these two hunt in pairs. Just like Kumble-Harbhajan was a dangerous pair, Ashwin-Jadeja is also a formidable pair.”

Meanwhile, India defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in the 1st Test. Batting first, India piled up 574-8 (d) on the scoreboard. Later, they bowled out to Sri Lanka for just 174 and 178 in two innings.

Ravindra Jadeja played a fabulous knock of 175 runs in the match and hunted 9 wickets. He was awarded the player of the match award for his astonishing performance. India vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test will commence on March 12 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
